Do Not Feed the Wildlife

The wildlife at the Mineola Nature Preserve may be beautiful to watch, but feeding them is strictly prohibited. Human food can harm animals by disrupting their natural diets and causing serious health problems. Feeding wildlife can also make animals lose their natural fear of people, which can lead to aggressive behavior and dangerous encounters for both visitors and animals.

When wildlife becomes dependent on human food, it changes their natural habits and can put them at risk.

Help us protect the animals and keep the preserve safe for everyone. Please enjoy wildlife from a distance and never feed them.

Together we can help keep wildlife wild at the Mineola Nature Preserve.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Stephen Miller and his son, Wyatt, for their incredible father-son project benefiting the Mineola Nature Preserve!

Stephen and Wyatt built and donated beautiful new picnic tables that will be enjoyed by families, visitors, and nature lovers for years to come. Their hard work, craftsmanship, and generosity are truly appreciated and make a lasting impact on our community.

Projects like this are what make Mineola so special — neighbors giving back and investing in spaces we all love.

Freezing temperatures are expected, and the City of Mineola encourages residents and businesses to prepare now to protect plumbing and prevent damage.

Please remember to:
Turn off and drain sprinkler systems
Know where your main water shut-off valve is located
Insulate exposed pipes and seal drafts
Let faucets drip during prolonged freezing temperatures

If pipes freeze, shut off the water immediately and thaw using warm air only. Taking these steps now can help avoid costly repairs. Stay safe and stay warm. Continue to monitor City of Mineola updates for weather-related information.
