The event will begin at noon on Saturday, June 27, and continue for 24 continuous hours until 1:00 pm. on Sunday, June 28.
Field Day is the largest annual amateur radio event in the United States and serves as a real-world test of off-grid emergency communications capabilities. This year’s Field Day theme is “Amateur Radio: A National Resource.”
During the exercise, amateur radios and antennas will be temporarily set up powered independently from the electrical grid while we practice maintaining communications under emergency conditions. This provids us the opportunity to set up in public demonstrating ham radio's science, skill, and service to our communities and our nation.
The event is designed to prepare operators and to test preparations of operators and equipment to assist during disasters and emergencies when traditional communication systems may be unavailable due to severe weather, power outages, or other emergencies.
The public is invited to attend free of charge throughout the event. Community members will have the opportunity to observe live radio operations, learn about emergency communications, and discover how to become involved in amateur radio. In addition, the public will be invited to try their hand at having a long distance radio communication during the event.
We encourage everyone with an interest in technology, emergency preparedness, public service, or communications to stop by and learn more about the hobby and its role in supporting communities during emergencies.

Do Not Feed the Wildlife
The wildlife at the Mineola Nature Preserve may be beautiful to watch, but feeding them is strictly prohibited. Human food can harm animals by disrupting their natural diets and causing serious health problems. Feeding wildlife can also make animals lose their natural fear of people, which can lead to aggressive behavior and dangerous encounters for both visitors and animals.
When wildlife becomes dependent on human food, it changes their natural habits and can put them at risk.
Help us protect the animals and keep the preserve safe for everyone. Please enjoy wildlife from a distance and never feed them.
Together we can help keep wildlife wild at the Mineola Nature Preserve.
